In Quebec, a law prevents students with the first language of French from attending English primary or secondary schools. But pre-university colleges are exempt from this law, and have seen a spike in students enrolling in English Language classes, to the dismay of some politicians. Parti Quebecois, a political party advocating for Quebecois independence, will debate and possibly vote on a resolution to cut funding for English colleges. A second year Dawson College student said "French is a part of Quebec, and if the french language is lost then the French culture in North America is basically lost and that's something people have to understand. But English is important to learn if you want to have a good job."
